Frequently asked questions

How does this GST calculator work?

Enter an amount and pick the GST slab (5%, 12%, 18%, 28% are the standard slabs; 3% applies to gold and bullion; 0% is for exempt and nil-rated supplies). Choose whether your amount is exclusive of GST (the tool adds GST) or inclusive (the tool extracts the GST component). Finally, pick intra-state (CGST + SGST split equally) or inter-state (IGST only).

When do I apply CGST + SGST vs IGST?

CGST + SGST applies when the buyer and seller are in the same state (intra-state supply). IGST applies when they are in different states (inter-state supply) or when the supply involves an SEZ. The total GST percentage is the same in both cases; only the split changes.

How do I calculate GST inclusive of tax?

If your total amount already includes GST, use the formula: Base = Total / (1 + GST_rate/100). Then GST = Total - Base. This tool's 'Inclusive of GST' mode does this automatically. Example: ₹11,800 inclusive of 18% GST = ₹10,000 base + ₹1,800 GST.

Are these the current GST rates for 2026?

Yes. The standard slabs are 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, with special rates of 0% (exempt), 0.25% (rough diamonds), 1.5% (cut diamonds), and 3% (bullion and jewellery making charges). Compensation cess may apply on top for luxury cars, tobacco, and aerated drinks. Always cross-check with CBIC notifications for your specific item.

How can I generate GST invoices automatically?

Manual calculation is fine for a few invoices; for high-volume manufacturing, you need an ERP that auto-calculates GST per line item based on HSN, applies CGST/SGST or IGST based on place-of-supply, and pushes the invoice to the e-invoice IRP and e-way bill portal in one click. ERPDrive does all of this. Book a free demo to see it.

What is the difference between TCS and GST?

GST is the tax on the supply itself. TCS (Tax Collected at Source) under section 206C(1H) of the Income Tax Act applies when your sales to a single buyer cross ₹50 lakh in a financial year - you collect 0.1% TCS in addition to GST. The two are separate and both must be reflected on the invoice.
